Wisconsin's CCW override fails. [Sorry WI, you were so close.]

Concealed weapons still banned in Wisconsin
Assembly fails to override veto

I'd like to express my sympathy to the law-abiding gun owners in WI this morning. It seems you have 2 asshat democrats that voted for the bill switched their votes and voted against the override. ( Reps. John Steinbrink of Pleasant Prairie and Terry Van Akkeren of Sheboygan )

I know how much it sucks to live in a state that thinks guns are the problem and the people should be restricted from defending themselves. I grew up in Illinois, live up there till I was 21 then moved to Florida.

I worked for a time in Milwaukee and Racine and while Racine seemed like a nice place, Milwaukee was a crime ridden shithole. We showed up at the phone switching station one morning and a car that was sitting in the parking lot overnight had seven bullet holes in it, from three different caliber guns!

But I can see why Milwaukee has a problem with crime, here's the Mayor of Milwaukee's statement after the override failed.

Milwaukee Mayor Barrett: Statement on Sustaining Conceal/Carry Veto

“I want to thank the members of the Wisconsin State Assembly who had the courage and common sense to uphold Governor Doyle’ s veto of the concealed carry bill.

No one other than the pro- gun special interests was clamoring for this unnecessary piece of legislation.

Getting illegal guns and those who carry and use them off our streets is a real problem that won’t be solved by allowing more guns in our communities.

It’s time that for the legislature to get serious about protecting citizens from those criminals who victimize our neighborhoods and families with illegal guns.”

The logic of this man is mind-numbing.

"Getting illegal guns and those who carry and use them off our streets is a real problem that won’t be solved by allowing more guns in our communities."

First off what's an "illegal gun?" One that has had it's serial number filed off and is carried by a felon, or one that has been illegally modified to go full auto or one that's had its' barrel sawed off? If so those would NOT be the types of guns that LAW-ABIDING gun owners would be carrying.

And trust me having law-abiding gun owners on the street would in fact remove those that carry "illegal guns." Once law-abiding gun owners start shooting back the herd would get thinned out a bit.

Next he laid out his plan, HA!

"It’s time that for the legislature to get serious about protecting citizens from those criminals who victimize our neighborhoods and families with illegal guns.”

OK, how? By taking away their right to defend themselves? Real smart! I've said it before CRIMINALS DON'T FOLLOW THE LAW, THAT'S WHY THEY'RE CRIMINALS!!

How does he propose citizens get protection he thinks they need? Hire more cops to do paper work after a robbery, rape, murder occurs? Remember, cops are great at responding after the fact but are seldom, if ever, there when the crime takes place.

Then you've got people, like Mr. Chris Walker here, with a mindset so F'd up it's almost beyond compression.

Concealed weapons simply unsafe

"In the year 2005 alone, Milwaukee police reported 122 total homicides. And that’s without the right to conceal a weapon."

"let’s not forget guns sometimes have the unfortunate luck of going off on their own."

I mean really, after you read statements like this do you take this person seriously?

How many of those 122 homicides could have been prevented if the person killed had been able to legally carry a gun and defend themselves?

And unless you put a loaded gun in the oven, guns don't just "go off on their own", you have to pull the trigger.

Sorry Wisconsinites maybe next time.
