The Brady Campaign...just a bit ignorant

I was just looking into my question of police restricting people from buying a gun and came across this gem from the Brady bunch.

May police limit carrying concealed handguns? No

Florida - State law forces police chiefs and state sheriffs to give concealed carry permits (CCW) to anyone who can buy a handgun, allowing them to carry loaded, concealed handguns in public (known as shall issue). Some safety training is required to obtain the CCW permit. State law allows residents of some other states to carry concealed weapons in this state without informing local police.

This is 100% unequivocally a falsehood. The brady bunch is trying to make it look like the police have some control over CCW licenses, well, thankfully they don't.

Unlike some states were you have to beg the local sheriff in order to get a carry permit here in FL we get our CCW's from the Dept. of Agriculture.

I know that sounds a little strange. "Why would the Dept. of Ag. handle carry permits?"

Well that's because it's the "Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services" and they handle all the Licensing Permits for the state, including carry permits.

Just one more reason I love living in FL!

And BTW if you apply using the electronic fingerprints you normally get your permit with in two weeks. .

Is there a waiting period on gun sales? Yes

State law requires a 3-day waiting period for all handgun sales by licensed dealers. Counties may extend the waiting period to 5-days and apply it to long guns and sales by non-licensed dealers at gun shows and flea markets. The waiting period is used by law enforcement to run a criminal background check to make sure the gun buyer is not prohibited from acquiring firearms. The waiting period also serves as a "cooling off" period to help prevent crimes of passion.

This is BS too. If you're a FL CCW holder the 3 day waiting period is waved.

It's also BS that the "waiting period is used by law enforcement to run a criminal background check" they don't run the check until you come to pick up your gun. The call take about 5 mins.
